CALARTS
California Institute of the Arts (also known as CalArts) is a top art school located north of Los Angeles. Alumni of professional artists, performing artists, filmmakers, animation artists, and other creative talents are around the world. Founded in 1961 by Walt Disney himself, CalArts is the first American college granting degrees in visual and performing arts, and remains one of the world’s top animation schools.
There are two animation programs at CalArts, Character Animation and Experimental Animation. The latter provides a professional environment for students to explore, develop and accomplish personal animated works as fine arts pieces, while the former is designed for students who seek an understanding of the art of character performance and storytelling in animation. It provides comprehensive artistic and technical training. During the course of their studies, students develop a professional-caliber portfolio.
The Character Animation Department’s annual student film showcase, called the Producers ‘ Show started first as a special screening for industry guests only, mainly producers, directors and recruiters. It has since evolved into a public screening with limited seating, but remains a must-see industry annual event.
2011 KIAF is honored to be permitted to screen “2011 CalArts’ Producers’ Show” in its entirety. Special thanks to Director Dan Hansen for his help and generosity.
