Donna Bain Smith will serve a four-year term on the Thunder Bay Police Services Board’s governance committee.
THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay Police Services Board has announced the appointment of a new member of its governance committee.
Donna Bain Smith was selected to represent the community for a four-year term, replacing Denise Baxter in that role.
Baxter was originally named one of three community members of the governance committee in October 2022, but became a full-fledged member of the board when she was appointed by city council last month.
The governance committee consists of community representatives as well as the members of the police board.
Smith is the president of Bain Smith Consulting, where she has provided financial advisory services to municipalities, First Nations, First Nation organizations, law firms and small businesses, and has assisted clients with strategic planning, governance structure and policy development.
The city resident has served on various boards throughout her career, including as chair of the Northern Ontario Angels.
“My hope is to work with the committee to achieve the goal of having our police service seen as a trusted leader, for all community members, collaborating with the many community organizations so that Thunder Bay is one of the safest cities in Canada,” Smith said.
TBPSB administrator Malcolm Mercer welcomed her in an announcement Tuesday, saying the board looks forward to having her expertise as it continues the work that’s already underway.
