Major response by Thunder Bay police on Cumming Street Friday evening includes officers in tactical gear.
THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay police were engaged in what appeared to be a standoff in the city’s South End early Friday evening.
At least half a dozen police vehicles surrounded a residence on the 20s block of Cumming Street just after 4 p.m. Friday.
Numerous officers in tactical gear attended the scene, with at least one officer pointing a weapon at a house.
The police presence was related to an ongoing investigation, the force said in a statement issued Friday evening.
The incident resulted in Cumming Street being blocked at May Street and at McKenzie Street in the early evening.
“For the safety of our officers, area residents, and your personal wellbeing, the public is asked to avoid this area until further notice,” police urged.
