海地總統莫伊茲遇刺身亡，國家警察當地時間周日宣布拘捕一名居美的海地裔醫生，指他是涉案核心人物，密謀奪權。當局也透露，相關調查的下一個任務是確定誰資助這次行動。
國家警察總長查爾斯指，盤問被捕涉案僱傭兵後，查出63歲的薩農（Christian Emmanuel Sanon）是本案核心人物，他居於美國佛羅里達州，上月乘私人飛機抵達海地後，聯絡一間在佛州有辦公室的委內瑞拉保安公司「CTU」，聘請僱傭兵視他為海地總統保護。
警方搜查薩農的海地寓所，檢獲4頂印有美國緝毒局「DEA」字樣的帽、20箱子彈、6個槍套、24個未用過的槍靶、4個多明尼加共和國車牌、兩輛車及與不明人士的通信。
查爾斯交代，合共26名哥倫比亞人涉案，18人落網，5人在逃、3人遭警方擊斃，另外連同薩農有3名海地人被捕。
他透露，薩農透過專門保護政客的「CTU」招攬僱傭兵，與其他嫌犯於6月初抵達海地。僱傭兵的最初任務是保護薩農，之後改為捉拿莫伊茲。
莫伊茲死後，其中一名僱傭兵致電過薩農，之後再與相信是刺殺行動軍師的兩名人士接觸。查爾斯沒交代幕後主謀身份，僅指正與哥倫比亞高官合作查明刺殺案詳情。
報導指，薩農斷斷續續在佛州生活20多年，在當地註冊十多家企業，包括醫療服務、能源與房地產公司，但多數已成為不活躍企業，2013年在坦帕市申請破產，債務超過40萬美元。他稱自己是一名醫生，但《邁阿密先驅報》未能找到他在佛州的醫療執照。
