奈及利亞足球員為了養家來到越南，卻因腳傷丟了球隊合約，只能在湄公河畔的貧民窟打雜。他在這裡遇見四位女子，她們際遇各不相同，內心卻同樣疲憊。五個被生活掏空的人，相約住進一棟廢棄別墅，展開一段相濡以沫的生活。在這彷若異次元的空間裡，他們灑掃、燒菜、沐浴、便溺、交媾，一切同進同退，卻又隨興所至，生活中多餘元素皆被剝除，回到最原始的狀態。
越南影壇新銳黎豹一鳴驚人首部劇情長片，更有泰國剪接師利．查泰米提古的操刀加持。在他沉靜緩慢的鏡頭下，現實被賦予奇幻而憂鬱的色彩，角色的呼吸、動作與身體的肌理成為主角，從中又可看見他對當代世界的觀察與反思：小至個人的存在認同，大至全球化資本社會對個人的剝削。此般風格不難令人聯想到蔡明亮、阿比查邦或佩德羅．科斯塔等名導，但黎豹電影的原點，來自他對生活、回憶中的氣味與人的姿態的著迷。

Bassley is a Nigerian immigrant playing football in the Vietnamese League to support his son back home. When he breaks his leg, the football team terminates his contract. With nowhere to go and his leg in a cast, Bassley is hired as a masseur at a hair salon frequented by working class Vietnamese. He sees four women in their fifties who, like him, are on the fringes of society. Mien crafts hot air balloons in a makeshift factory. Trang is a fishmonger, who sometimes has sex with Bassley. Hanh sells the buns she bakes with her husband. And Thuong lives with a piglet along the river.
Mien is dying of an unknown illness and her family accompany her to an abandoned house for her to rest. Bassley is told that the football team will not have him back and decides to join Mien. Hanh and Thuong also join Bassley and Mien in the house, where they create a simple utopia.
One day, the women look out of the window and miss the world outside. The spell is broken. Bassley is back in the salon. He misses the connection they had in the house. But neither Trang nor Hanh can comfort him and Thuong has disappeared. Mien remains in the house, waiting for her death. Bassley pays Mien a visit and holds her in his arms as she dies. Left alone, he walks through a forest and reflects as one life passes for another.
