Thunder Bay woman wins $436,630 in hospital draw

Cathy Tymchyshyn learned about her winfall on Friday morning while at work.

THUNDER BAY – Cathy Tymchyshyn got the surprise of her life on Friday, picking up the phone to learn she’d won $436,630.

Tymchyshyn is the August grand-prize winner in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Thunder Bay 50/50 draw.

She took the call at work.

“The rest of the staff is all here cheering me on,” she told foundation CEO Glenn Craig, who once again delivered the news, having given away $4.3 million in grand prize jackpots since the first draw this past February.

The latest winner isn’t sure what she’ll do with her winfall.

“I have no idea. It’s the biggest thing I’ve won, for sure,” she said. “It’s wonderful.”

Craig said he never gets tired of making the monthly calls.

“People have been coming up to me and asking when I was going to call them with good news.”

The 50/50 jackpot draw is held on the final Friday of every month, although the current contest winner will be chosen on Oct. 1.

September’s draw includes an early-bird prize of $5,000, to be drawn on Sept. 3, the largest early-bird prize yet. Three additional early-bird prizes of $2,000 each will also be selected.

Tickets are $10 for five numbers, $20 for 30 numbers, $50 for 150 numbers and back by popular demand, $75 for 300 numbers.

Ticket buyers must be in Ontario at the time of purchase. They are available at www.thunderbay5050.ca.
