Students raise money for gifts for school staff as part of the KINDersCARE initiative

Faculty members were touched at the thoughtful gesture.

THUNDER BAY – A Kindergarten class at Holy Family School made all the members of their faculty’s Valentine’s Days much more special as part of the KINDersCARE initiative, which saw students giving gifts to all the school staff.

“They were all very touched. They even told me when they came up to me this morning and said they had gone in the staff room this morning and saw the cart and they thought it was very thoughtful that our students would think about them and they were all very happy to receive their gifts,” said Kindergarten Teacher, Merrill Young.

This is the third year of the KINDersCARE initiative, in 2020 students created over 450 candy packages to give to emergency first responders and healthcare workers braving the start of the pandemic. In 2021 students assembled lanterns of hope given to seniors in the community.

This year, the students performed acts of kindness and helpfulness at home by doing chores to earn a KINDerTWOONIE, raising a total of 80 dollars that was used to purchase supplies for the Valentine’s Day cart.

Students gave each staff member a specialized gift bag, which Young says was a touching moment for everyone, especially those who might have missed the memo early this morning and were surprised when the students arrived with a cart full of gifts.

The gifts raised by the students were accompanied by donations from families of snacks and drinks, which were made available for all staff in the faculty lounge.
