Richard Gere Finds a Buyer for His $28-Million Estate in Upstate New York

The “Pretty Woman” actor listed the nearly 50-acre property last October.

Actor Richard Gere has found a buyer for his sprawling country compound in upstate New York, which he put on the market for $28 million last October.

The listing went into contract Thursday, according to records on Multiple Listing Service.

Located in Pound Ridge, about an hour’s drive from New York City, the nearly 50-acre estate has five structures including a 11,658-square-foot main residence, stables, a private lake with a sandy beach and an island, a soccer field, and a swimming pool, according to the listing with Muffin Dowdle of Ginnel Real Estate.

The main house has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a formal living room, a family room, a gourmet kitchen, a breakfast nook with a wood-burning fireplace, a library and a study, according to the listing.

Mr. Gere, 72, who starred in such iconic films as “American Gigolo” (1980) and “Pretty Woman” (1990), bought the land in 1986 for $1.51 million, property records show.

Mr. Gere’s estate is surrounded by 4,300 acres of protected land, according to the listing.

A rep for Mr. Gere, as well as the listing agent, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Pound Ridge is a bucolic town in New York’s Westchester County and borders Connecticut. Currently, the most expensive residential property sold in the town is a nearly 30-acre estate with a 9,822-square-foot historic house, which sold for $9.8 million last month, according to Zillow.
