In the Holiday Showcase at Fort William Gardens, the Wolves had to grit and grind their way to a 5-3 victory over the SIJHL All-Stars. Having not played a competitive game since late November, the “holiday rust” was evident in the university squad’s early performance.

When Lakehead’s Austin Peters scored to tie it, he was met with surprising boos from pockets of rival junior fans—a first for the Wolves at their normally friendly home rink.

Ofukany admitted after the game that the speed and transition of the university level was a significant “eye-opener.”

While it wasn’t a perfect performance, LU coach Andrew Wilkins focused on the progress. “I thought we got better as the game went on, which is what you would hope for,” he remarked. Austin Peters, with two goals on the night, earned player of the game honors as the teams prepare to run it back for Day 2 of the showcase on Saturday.
