劇情摘要 / Synopsis
1948年，在蘇聯統治下的亞美尼亞，政治氛圍依舊陰鬱沉重。主角查理 (Charlie) 是一名美籍亞美尼亞人，他童年時為躲避1915年鄂圖曼帝國對亞美尼亞人的迫害（Armenian Genocide）而逃往美國。成年後，查理帶著對文化根源的渴望踏上返鄉之旅，卻因一場荒謬的誤會——僅僅是因為戴了一條波點領帶——遭到錯誤逮捕，被關進一座管理不善的監獄。
在獄中，面對艱困的苦工（Hard Labor），查理意外地從牢房的一扇小窗戶 (Small Window)，窺見了窗外一對獄卒夫婦的家庭生活。吃飯、爭吵、唱歌、相愛——這些日常（Everyday Life），成了查理重新接觸和理解自己失落的文化記憶 (Lost Cultural Memory) 的唯一窗口。

Plot Summary
The year is 1948, and Soviet-ruled Armenia remains under a heavy political cloud. The protagonist, Charlie, is an Armenian American who fled to the United States as a child to escape the 1915 persecution of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire (the Armenian Genocide). Driven by a desire to reconnect with his roots, Charlie returns to his homeland as an adult.
However, due to an absurd misunderstanding—simply for wearing a polka-dot tie—he is wrongfully arrested and thrown into a poorly managed prison.
Facing moldy bread and hard labor, Charlie’s situation seems utterly bleak, yet characterized by a dark, absurd humor. Unexpectedly, from a small window in his cell, he gains a view into the ordinary family life of a prison guard and his wife: eating, arguing, singing, and loving. These everyday occurrences become Charlie’s sole window for reconnecting with his lost cultural memory.
As the guard couple’s relationship grows strained and the husband faces the threat of exile to Siberia, Charlie hatches an ingenious plan from within his cell to try and mend their fraying marriage. Through this act of “remote companionship,” Charlie not only rediscovers his cultural ties to the land but also finds the persistent flicker of freedom and warmth within his own heart, even under the most extreme authoritarian oppression.
